Creative duo Arjun Singgh Baran and Kartk D Nishandar have their hands full with multiple projects ready to roll out in the coming months. Their show, Rafuchakkar, starring Maniesh Paul, Priya Bapat and others, is streaming for free on JioCinema.
In an exclusive interview with PeepingMoon, Arjun and Kartk opened up about the conman courtroom drama, getting a legal team on board to get the facts right and renewing the show for a second season. They further spoke about Taali with Sushmita Sen and their goal to focus on creating quality content.
Talking about Rafuchakkar and conceptualizing it, they said, "Around 3 years ago, we got the idea after observing Indian and international filmmakers were not focusing on courtroom conman drama. We wanted a blend of both and hence started working on the idea. We then got writers on board to do the screenplay and dialogues. We went into depth and understood the law and the psychology of a conman. We came very close to the subject. On the web, you cannot choose to ignore reality. There's no scope for creative liberty. it is important to give the audience an insight into the character's life which they have not lived or experienced."
Arjun and Kartk further shared, "We had a team who knew the Indian laws. We didn't want to go wrong with the Penal Codes, proceedings, mannerisms etc. While getting the legal terms in place, we didn't want to make the series boring because it is not a documentary. Priya Bapat who plays a lawyer in Rafuchakkar went through the grind of understanding law and the life of a lawyer with the legal team."
The creative duo shared the idea behind signing Maniesh for the series. "That's the fun of casting. You have seen predictable faces doing comedy, serious roles etc. Maniesh is extremely good with comedy and Jug Jugg Jeeyo won him a lot of appreciation. We wanted an actor like him to show that even he can do unpredictable stuff," they told adding, "We're writing the second season of Rafuchakkar. It will be with Maniesh itself."
Shedding light on their production house, GSEAMS, Arjun and Kartk told, "We've been in the business for 10 years and produced close to 18 Marathi films. Our show Samantar did extremely well. We've produced films like Bali, Mogra Phulala, Phuge and several others. As producers, we're inspired by Marathi literature and culture. Our aim is to make projects that are high on content. Our next project, Taali with Sushmita Sen, is based on a Marathi transgender. She brought a huge change and created history. Sushmita playing transgender for the first time is an inspiration."
