PeepingMoon Exclusive: Rajkummar Rao recalls the time when naysayers discouraged producers from taking him as the lead hero

Rajkummar Rao is one of the most acclaimed actors of today’s generation. The National Award winner did not have an easy road to stardom and started off with bit roles and ensemble films. However, his talent soon broke through the clutter and Rajkummar became a leading man in his own right. Rajkummar, who is looking forward to the release of his upcoming film, Bheed, opposite Bhumi Pednekar, spoke about facing the naysayers and how a few producers discouraged others from taking him as a lead in films in an exclusive interview with PeepingMoon.com.

Rajkummar recalled the time when a few people discouraged filmmakers from working with the actor saying that he is not a leading film hero, he said, “I’ve heard stories, obviously I won’t name anybody but there were a few people when I was starting out saying things like, ‘how can you take him as the lead hero, he is somebody who does these small parts in these small films’. But that’s about it and I never took those stories to my heart honestly, because at that point of time I was like ‘yeah, maybe you’re right, as a producer you might feel that way and it’s a practical decision’. These are stories that I heard but I never took them to heart or paid any heed to them.”
