PeepingMoon Exclusive: Playing Tom to Janhvi Kapoor’s Jerry mouse had me sold- Jaswant Singh Dalal on what made him say yes to Good Luck Jerry

Janhvi Kapoor’s Good Luck Jerry has released in the theatres and has garnered good reviews from the critics and audience alike. As per the reviews, Janhvi has totally killed it in the film along with the credible performance from the film’s supporting cast. Janhvi’s co-star Jaswant Singh Dalal, who plays the prominent role of Timmy in the film, shares his experience of working in the film and his journey from director-producer to actor and on working with Shahid Kapoor and Vijay Sethupathi in Raj & DK’s web series Farzi in an exclusive interview.

When asked about what made him say yes to the role in Good Luck Jerry, Jaswant said, “When I got a call from casting director Mukesh Chhabra and auditioned for the role of Timmy. After two days I received a call and then Mukesh Chhabra asked me to come to his office then and there and I went to meet him and the director Sidharth Sen was there. They loved my audition and wanted me to play Timmy but they wanted to meet me the next day in Color Yellow’s office so I went to meet him the next day and he narrated the story and then he told me that he is looking at Timmy as Tom of the film as he wanted me to behave like a cat because he was thinking that this is a world where Jerry is a character who is a mouse and there is a character who is always on the lookout to grab that mouse. That line itself was enough for me to say yes to the character.”

During the exclusive interview he was asked about his experience of working with Janhvi in the film. To this Jaswant said, “Working with Janhvi was a good experience. She was very down-to-earth, very humble and a very honest actor. Her honesty towards her craft was amazing and that is something that I have learnt from her and it was very nice. All my scenes are with her; we did some script readings before the film so it was really nice.”

On making the switch from direction-production to acting, Jaswant revealed and said, “In FTII we do everything, for six months we do editing also we do sound also and camera also and after that we choose a specialization to graduate and hence I chose acting. So when I came to Mumbai, they say na that you cannot assist in acting but you have to survive in this industry and for that I started you know I started doing production work and slowly I started producing documentaries and ad films and then even made a feature film called A Billion Colour Story and after that I realized that I need to pursue acting on a serious note and then I stopped producing and started going for auditions and that’s how I got this film and now I am totally focused on acting.”

When asked about his upcoming show Farzi, Jaswant said, “Farzi is a show directed by Raj & DK and in the show Shahid Kapoor is there, Vijay Sethupathi is there. And I am a big fan of Vijay Sethupathi and I always wanted to work with him and again I got this opportunity because of Mukesh Chhabra. I can’t reveal a lot about it as the makers have not revealed much but yeah it is for Amazon Prime and it is a big show and I’m very excited about it.”
