When it is Jaideep Ahlawat, you know that the film or web show must be worth a watch. One of the busiest stars of today, Jaideep has impressed critics with his performance in The Broken News, which released today on ZEE5. Co-starring Sonali Bendre and Shriya Pilgaonkar, the show revolves around the newsroom.
In an exclusive interview with PeepingMoon.com, Jaideep spoke about playing the role of Dipankar Sanyal, a journalist who is TRP hungry and can go to any extent to fetch good numbers. The actor further opened up about the ongoing North vs South debate.
Excerpts from the interview:
Why did you sign The Broken News?
I felt the story is very much similar to what's happening in our society. It is relevant. My character, Dipankar Sanyal, has an interesting arc. Apart from this, what matters is your team and co-stars. It was a good combination.
How was it working with Sonali Bendre?
Working with her was a memorable experience. Though we don't have scenes together, I have loved promoting the show with her and spending time on the sets.
Being a public figure, did you read any rumour about yourself and it affected you?
I am fortunate enough that this never happened to me. I hope it remains the same.
If The Broken News had to be a film..
The Broken News has a detailed storyline and as of now, it cannot be made into a film. One cannot show the entire story in just a few hours. Yes, it is a nice idea but can be executed only if the story is compact.
Often when you blend content with entertainment, some aspect falls short…
I am sure that’s not the case with The Broken News. To make a show, you need content and media is all about entertainment.
When Paatal Lok released, the OTT space was relatively new. Can you see any changes in the medium since then?
Of course, we all have seen that change. When Paatal Lok released, the entire world was in lockdown. OTT was the only source of entertainment and that's how people started watching global content.
What's your say on the north vs south debate?
I don't wish to be a part of any such debate. South made good films even before and being a cinema student, I have watched global cinema too. When you talk about art, it has no language barrier and such things as North vs South. These days, you can watch films with Hindi or English subtitles. Art is global and that's how it should be.
Do you wish to work with any South star? Is there anything in the pipeline?
Yes, why not? There is nothing in the pipeline but I would love to work with them. A few years ago, I did a film with Kamal Haasan which in itself was a big thing. There are so many good actors and directors so why not?
