The ever-expanding growth of OTT platforms in India has squeezed the regional barrier. Many actors from the South Indian film industry are lately being seen making their mark in the Hindi web shows. Nithya Menon forayed into the web space with Abhishek Bachchan's Breathe: Into The Shadows last year while Samantha Akkineni recently made her smashing Hindi debut with the highly acclaimed second season of Raj & DK's The Family Man. In the coming months, Vijay Sethupathi and Raashi Khanna are also set to debut in the Hindi web space with Raj & DK's upcoming Amazon Prime thriller series, Fakes starring Shahid Kapoor in the lead. And now, we heard one more South actress is gearing up for her web series debut with a Hindi project.
Peepingmoon.com has exclusively learned that South actress Regina Cassandra is making her OTT debut. The actress — known for her films like Jyo Achyutananda (2016), Maanagaram (2017) and Awe! (2018) among others — has signed a Hindi web series for Disney+Hotstar. The yet-untitled project is said to be an action-thriller series and will be directed by Kanishk Varma who's also helming Vidyut Jammwal's next actioner, Sanak. This series that marks Regina's second Hindi outing after her debut Bollywood slice-of-life drama, Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga (2019) will also star Befikre and Ajeeb Daastaans actor Armaan Ralhan, and Aarya fame Manish Chaudhary in pivotal roles.
Filmmaker Samar Khan is said to be producing this Disney+Hotstar series under his banner, Juggernaut Productions. Having backed content-driven, binge-worthy web projects like Code M, A Married Woman, and Raat Baaki Hai, the production company is set to explore action and thriller space with this new show that will go on floors in the next couple of months. The director Kanishk Varma has already started its pre-production and will soon lock the exact timelines and locations for the shoot. This series will be Varma's second web show after the upcoming much-awaited third season of Inside Edge that's expected to premiere later this year on Amazon Prime Video.
On the work work, Regina Cassandra has a couple of South projects in her kitty lined up for this year and 2022. She will next be seen in Arun Vijay's Borrder, Aravind Swami's Kallapart, Karungaapiyam, Soorpanagai, and the untitled Midnight Runners remake. She is also said to be doing a cameo appearance in Chiranjeevi and Ram Charan's highly anticipated Acharya.
