Emraan Hashmi's Captain Nawab in stuck: Armed forces' permission or the finance trouble is the reason?

Although Emraan Hashmi has announced some of his new films in quick succession recently, his first home production movie Captain Nawab, even after almost three years of its announcement, hasn't seen the light of the day yet. The movie starring Emraan as an army officer was stalled indefinitely right after the first schedule was wrapped up last year.

The movie went into trouble water when the Ministry of Defence didn't allow the makers to shoot the portions of the movie featuring Indian army. Since the film highlights the sensitive Indo-Pakistan relationship, the armed forces were wary of how it will be shot and had raised a few questions before they provide the film "No Objection Certificate". However, it has been over four months but still, there seems no development on that front.

The makers of Captain Nawab cannot resume work on the film unless a clearance is received. They have sent the script to the Ministry of Defence and are still awaiting their response. Earlier the makers were expecting the clearance in April but things didn't work out due to reasons best-known to them. The latest we heard, the next meeting with director Tony D'Souza is scheduled for mid-next month at Ministry's Delhi headquarter. If it gets the clearance from Armed forces this time, the makers are planning to talk to Emraan and resume working on Captain Nawab as soon as he is done with all his commitments.

However, Armed forces' objection is not the only reason this film is on hold. We have learnt that the makers of Captain Nawab are also suffering from financial trouble. "The film has a high budget. They are looking for financiers to invest 25 crore which is quite difficult to recover with Emraan Hashmi who is having a rough time at the box office. Most of his films in last several years have miserably failed at the ticket windows. His films merely make ₹30 Cr at the box-office and survive on Digital and Satellite," a source in the know told us.

"Also, Tony D'Souza and Emraan Hashmi's last collaboration (Azhar) was just an average grosser. Tony himself has a bad track record with Blue and Boss in his credit. This is the reason none of the financiers wants to invest their money in Captain Nawab. The film is about a betrayer agent is also an issue as you never know when the Defence ministry and Censor Board will object to it," the source added.

However, when we contacted Tony, he declined the news of the movie having financial trouble. "Any film which takes time is said to have finance troubles. When Emraan is the hero how can there be finance issues. He is a saleable star," he said.
