Exclusive: Bobby Deol’s son Aryaman not in ‘Dostana 2’

The suspense over Dharma Productions’ sequel to its 2008 hit romantic comedy Dostana keeps building up every day. Two weeks ago, when filmmaker Karan Johar announced the sequel on social media, he teasingly did not disclose what the characters would be like, even though he triumphantly gave Bollywood a brand new jodi in Kartik Aaryan and Janhvi Kapoor.

Since then, there has been widespread speculation about the second male actor in the sequel who would complete the trio of lovable characters established 11 years ago by Priyanka Chopra, John Abraham and Abhishek Bachchan. Announcing the sequel, Karan tweeted, “The return of the franchise with unlimited madness! @TheAaryanKartik, #Janhvi & a soon to be launched fresh face - making it the trio for #Dostana2, directed by @CollinDcunha. Watch out for the third suitable boy!”

That was enough to get Bollywood excited about the arrival of another newbie at a time when so many star kids were waiting to make their debut. The guessing game then intensified over who this “male newcomer” could be. And Bollywood more or less settled on two names from within the industry who could possibly feature opposite Janhvi because she and Kartik are supposed to be siblings in the film. One was Tabu’s nephew Fateh Randhawa, the son of Vindhu Dara Singh, and the other was Bobby Deol’s son Aryaman Deol.

Now PeepingMoon.com has confirmed news that the  “male newcomer” in Dostana 2 will be neither of the names shortlisted by the industry and media. “It will be someone from outside the industry, a totally fresh new face,” said a source connected to Dharma Productions. “And this debutant actor will be announced soon by KJo in his tried and trusted flamboyant manner,” the source added. Wait and watch who this might be.
