Exclusive: Rishi Kapoor in full ‘josh’ and likely to be back by Diwali

The news from New York is heartening. Veteran actor Rishi Kapoor, who is being treated for cancer at the Sloan Kettering Hospital there since September 2018, is in remission. And it looks like he will be home for Diwali in late October.
The first confirmation that he was suffering from cancer came when his elder brother Randhir Kapoor told the media last month that Rishi was almost cancer-free and ought to be home in a few months.

Then Ranbir Kapoor, who flies down to NY to be with his parents every now and then, said last weekend that his father was in good health and would come home in a month or two. “His spirits are up. He gets lots of positivity from you all,” Ranbir said on social media to Rishi’s fans and friends in the industry.

And it is true, Bollywood does its bit to cheer up the Kapoors by visiting Rishi and Neetu. Shah Rukh Khan, who was in NYC to appear on David Letterman’s Netflix talk show My Next Guest Needs No Introduction, called on them at their residence the other day.

And before that, it was Rishi’s co-star Boman Irani from Student of the Year and Housefull 2. Sharing a picture with Rishi and Neetu on Twitter, Boman wrote, “Rishiji asked, ‘When are you coming next to New York?’ Maybe end of this year, I said. While I was struggling to get the dates, he said, ‘Listen... I’ll see you in Mumbai!’ That’s the spirit Rishiji.”

Earlier, when Vicky Kaushal met them, Neetu put up a picture with their son Ranbir’s co-star from Sanju saying, “Met our very own Kamli (Vicky’s character in Sanju) for the first time. Such a humble, well brought up boy.” Vicky responded on Instagram with his own picture with the couple, saying, “Nothing can beat his josh! More power to you, sir.”

Others from Bollywood who have called on Rishi in New York include Aamir Khan, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Deepika Padukone and Anupam Kher. The actor, who is 66, is reportedly keen to get back to work. Ranbir said, “His desire and only endeavour is to act in movies. This sabbatical has been a little setback for him.” However, even though in remission, Rishi will have to complete his course and then plan the grand return to Mumbai. Hurrah for that!
