Exclusive: Vijay Varma of ‘Gully Boy’ fame has double role in ‘Mirzapur 2’

The big news hidden in the new season of Amazon Prime Video’s thriller series Mirzapur 2 is that Vijay Varma, who was recently seen in Gully Boy, makes an entry and will be playing a double role in the show.

Apart from him, Mirzapur returns with its old cast of Ali Fazal, Pankaj Tripathi and Divyendu Sharma who played Guddu Pandit, Kaleen Bhaiya and Munna Bhaiya respectively. The other actors reprising their roles will be Rasika Dugal, Sweta Tripathi, Rajesh Tailang and Harshita Gaur among others.

Anjum Sharma, who played Sharad Shukla who was introduced in the final episode of the first season, will have a bigger and stronger role. His character will apparently enter the world of crime and change the dynamics of it.

Mirzapur is an amped-up portrayal of India’s heartland and youth and shows a world replete with drugs, guns and lawlessness, where cast, power, egos and tempers intersect and violence is the only way of life. The first season revolved around the putrescence, governance and rule of mafia dons and the rivalry and crime prevailing in Mirzapur.

It received huge response from audiences and critics for its bold and gripping narrative, impactful characters and powerful dialogues. Produced by Excel Entertainment, the show’s next season is believed to be more action-oriented and will take the story to another level of cinematic experience while depicting the violent world of Purvanchal in Uttar Pradesh.

The preproduction for the new season is already underway and PeepingMoon.com has learned that shooting will start in the first week of May. Created by Puneet Krishna and directed by Gurmeet Singh, the show will be filmed in Banaras, Lucknow and Mumbai for about 4-5 months. It is expected to be premiered by the year-end or early 2020.
