Saif Ali Khan, Radhika Apte and Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s Netflix show Sacred Games is in troubled waters. The show which is based on the novel by Vikram Chandra of the same name is directed by Anurag Kashyap and Vikramaditya Motwane. A plea was filed in Delhi High Court for showing former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi’s involvement in the Bofors scam and using derogatory dialogues for the former PM.
Now, in a relief to Nawazuddin and Saif, the Delhi High Court has ruled that the actors cannot be held responsible for the dialogues featured in the show. However, it has also mentioned that nothing new will be added to the show and no new episodes will be aired other than the eight episodes which have already been aired.

However, Indian National Congress President Rahul Gandhi tweeted on Saturday that the views of a character on a fictional web series can never change the fact that his father Rajiv Gandhi lived and died in the service of India. He said that freedom of expression is a fundamental right.

Many Bollywood celebrities including Anurag Kashyap hailed the politician’s views. However, there were some like filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar who reminded the politician about the problems he faced from his party members when his film Indu Sarkar was about to release which was based on former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and her son Sanjay Gandhi.
Saif also spoke about the controversy surrounding his new show. He told a leading daily that attacking a star is the easiest way to get attention and many people try to gain mileage in that way. He said that one cannot make a movie adhering to the guidelines of how not to offend anyone. He said that if a show or a film has genuinely upset anyone then it’s another story but usually people just attack film stars because they want to gain publicity from it.
