Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra are headlining Imtiaz Ali's upcoming biopic titled Chamkila. Based on the life of the late Punjabi folk singer, Amar Singh Chamkila, the film will stream directly on Netflix. Today, the first look teaser of Chamkila was unveiled. Diljit's look as the folk singer was revealed.
Sharing the teaser, Diljit wrote, "Jo naam saalon se aapke dil aur dimaag pe chaaya hai woh ab aapke saamne aaya hai. Watch the untold story of Punjab’s highest record-selling artist, Amar Singh #Chamkila, coming soon only on Netflix!"
Amar Singh Chamkila shot to fame in the ‘80s with his songs that spoke of extramarital relationships, coming-of-age, drinking, drug use, and the patriarchal mindset of Punjabi men. Though controversial, he earned fame overnight. Chamkila and his wife Amarjot were killed in an assassination in Punjab’s Mehsampur in 1988.
Chamkila will released on Netflix in 2024.
