Blonde trailer: Ana de Armas brings out the dark and troubled life of Hollywood legend Marilyn Monroe

Netflix dropped the first trailer of its upcoming Marilyn Monroe biopic Blonde starring Ana de Armas in the lead online on Thursday. The film follows the iconic star who was ‘watched by all but seen by none’. Blonde is directed by Andrew Dominik and is adapted from the novel of the same name by Joyce Carol Oates. The film’s trailer takes a dark look at the troubled life of the iconic star. The film is a slightly fictionalized retelling of Marilyn’s life yet is touted to be pretty close to the truth.

The trailer shows both black-and-white and colour footage as Ana dances to Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend and make waves on the red carpets. However, she also harbours a disdain for the arclights as we hear her tell her side of the story, insisting that Marilyn Monroe doesn’t exist and she is simply Norma Jean when the cameras turn off.

The trailer also gives a glimpse of how she faced exploitation, troubled love life, addiction, being a sex symbol and being continually under the male gaze. The trailer also shows off some of Marilyn’s most iconic looks and moments, expertly portrayed by Ana. Ana also perfectly recreates Marilyn’s iconic white dress moment in the trailer and is touted to be a frontrunner in the Oscar’s race in the coming season.

The supporting cast includes Bobby Cannavale, Adrien Brody, Julianne Nicholson, Xavier Samuel and Evan Williams. Blonde releases globally on Netflix on September 23.
