Netflix dropped the trailer of its latest film Spiderhead starring Chris Hemsworth, Miles Teller, Jurnee Smollett and others just now. The film is directed by Joseph Kosinski and is based on George Saunders' short story for The New Yorker, Escape from Spiderhead.
Netflix released three new images from the medical drama earlier, revealing Chris, Miles Teller, and Jurnee Smollett in action. The trailer shows two inmates who become test patients for a medical drug that apparently controls their emotions and feelings. The film is set to examine the conflict between free will, human nature and personal responsibility as well as the ulterior motives human possess towards their fellow beings. The film also stars Mark Paguio and Tess Haubrich.

The official synopsis for Spiderhead reads, “In a state-of-the-art penitentiary run by brilliant visionary Steve Abnesti (Chris Hemsworth), inmates wear a surgically attached device that administers dosages of mind-altering drugs in exchange for commuted sentences. There are no bars, no cells, or orange jumpsuits. In Spiderhead, incarcerated volunteers are free to be themselves. Until they’re not. At times, they’re a better version. Need to lighten up? There’s a drug for that. At a loss for words? There’s a drug for that, too. But when two subjects, Jeff (Miles Teller) and Lizzy (Jurnee Smollett), form a connection, their path to redemption take a twistier turn, as Abnesti’s experiments start to push the limits of free will altogether. Spiderhead’s script is written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. The film is slated to release on June 17 on Netflix.
