Anil Kapoor and Netflix issue clarification over ‘AK vs AK’ trailer after IAF accuses them of ‘inaccurately donned’ uniform

Anil Kapoor and Netflix India have responded to Indian Air Force’s (IAF) objection to the promo of their upcoming film AK vs AK which depicts the actor in uniform. The IAF had alleged that the actor had ‘inaccurately donned’ the uniform of an Air Force officer and is shown using abusive and expletive words.

In an video message, Anil apologized for hurting the sentiments of the IAF and explained that his character is an actor emulating an air force officer. He said, “My character is in uniform because he's an actor playing the role of an officer. When he finds out that his daughter has been kidnapped, the anger and rage he experiences and portrays is that of an emotionally distraught father. It was only in the interest of remaining true to the story that my character is still wearing the uniform on his quest to find his missing daughter."

On the other hand, Netflix wrote, “Hon. @IAF_MCC , our intention would never be to disrespect the Armed Forces of India in any regard. AK Vs. AK is a film in which Anil Kapoor and his co-stars are playing themselves as actors. At no point does the film represent the Indian Air Force or our Armed Forces. We have nothing but the highest respect for the brave people protecting our nation.”

AK vs AK is a Vikramaditya Motwane film, starring Anurag Kashyap and Anil Kapoor, "as themselves". It will be released on December 24. In the video clip that has come under fire Anil and Anurag are seen bickering as the veteran actor resorts to foul language and abuses the filmmaker.

The film is supposed to be a mockumentary drama.
