‘The Prom’ trailer: Meryl Streep, Nicole Kidman, James Corden, Andrew Rannells put on their dancing shoes in Ryan Murphy’s musical

Netflix has dropped the teaser trailer of its big holiday-season musical The Prom. Director Ryan Murphy’s screen adaptation of the original Broadway show boasts of a stellar star cast that includes Meryl Streep, Nicole Kidman, Kerry Washington, James Corden, Andrew Rannells, Keegan-Michael Key, Ariana DeBose and Jo Ellen Pellman.

The movie-musical follows Dee Dee Allen (Streep) and Barry Glickman (Corden), a pair of New York-based actors whose careers on the decline when they see an opportunity which will not only rehabilitate their public image but is also a cause worth fighting for. They get wind of the plight of a high school girl named Emma (Jo Ellen Pellman) who is heartbroken when she learns that she cannot attend prom with her girlfriend Alyssa (Ariana DeBose). Dee Dee and Barry rope in their fellow actors Angie (Kidman) and Trent (Andrew Rannells) along for the ride. However, their half-hearted and sly effort blows up in their faces, forcing the quartet to rally together and give Emma the magical prom night she deserves.

The Prom also stars Tracey Ullman, Kevin Chamberlin, Mary Kay Place, Logan Riley, Nico Greetham, Sofia Deler, and Nathaniel J. Potvin. The film version has a screenplay from original playwrights Chad Beguelin and Bob Martin and is produced by Murphy, Dori Berinstein, Bill Damaschke, Alexis Martin Woodall and Adam Anders. The Prom debuts on Netflix on December 11.
