Netflix unveils first look of Chadwick Boseman’s last starring role in ‘Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom’ opposite Viola Davis

In the new Netflix adaptation of Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, we get to see Chadwick Boseman in his last starring role before he succumbed to colon cancer recently. The streaming giant released the first look images of the film. Boseman lights up the stage with Viola Davis who plays Ma Rainey, a Southern singer dubbed the ‘Mother of the Blues’. He plays her ambitious trumpeter and boyfriend, Levee who is desperate to put a contemporary feel to Ma’s old-fashioned songs, hoping it will kickstart his own career.

Based on August Wilson’s award-winning play of the same name, the film is set in 1927 Chicago and focuses on issues of race, music, relationships and the exploitation of Black recording artists. Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom also stars Glynn Turman, Colman Domingo and Michael Potts.
