‘His House’ trailer: Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù and Wunmi Mosaku play asylum seekers who must brave their haunted abode

Home is where the heart is, right? Well, in writer-director Remi Weekes’ horror film His House, things come undone and home is no longer sweet but becomes a hellish nightmare. Sope Dirisu and Wunmi Mosaku play a young refugee couple, who after making a harrowing escape from war-torm South Sudan struggle to adjust to their new life in a small English town that has an unspeakable evil lurking beneath the surface.

The trailer of His House has been dropped by Netflix that will definitely give you the heebie-jeebies. The protagonists are two displaced asylum seekers who are given a temporary residency in a shabby council estate that also has strict rules and guidelines that they must follow to the T if they want to keep the house and their shelter in the country. Unlike other spooky films, here the protagonists do not have the privilege to simply leave their haunted house. They are stuck having to survive within their house of horrors.

In a statement, Weekes said, “His House is a haunted house story about two immigrants trying to make a home in a foreign country. Unlike traditional haunted house stories where the protagonist might be able to escape, our protagonists — two displaced asylum seekers — do not have the privilege to simply leave. Rather, they are stuck having to survive within their house. This is often the case in the U.K., where asylum seekers have to follow draconian rules when given accommodation. This is also often the case with trauma — you're stuck having to find ways to survive your grief, and finding ways to heal within it."

His House also stars Matt Smith and will be released on Netflix on October 30. You can watch the official trailer below.
