The first trailer for Ryan Murphy’s and Ian Brennan’s new Netflix series Hollywood has just dropped and it looks like the next must-see show on the OTT platform. Hollywood follows a group of aspiring actors and filmmakers in the titular town, post World War II as they try to make it big at all costs. Set in the golden age of Hollywood, the series offers an alternative version of the tinseltown history where they try to rewrite history while trying to make a mark for themselves in the show business.
This seven-episode limited series examines the big, bad and ugly face of Hollywood and examines the unfair systems, biases, prejudices and stereotypes that are prevalent and happily adhered to in the showbiz. Hollywood provides a unique glimpse of what goes behind the gilded curtains of Hollywood’s Golden Age, focusing on biases across race, homosexuality, predatory behaviour, casting couch and other evils that continue till this day. The show aims to expose and examine power dynamics and how the industry might have progressed and shaped if they had been dismantled in time.

Hollywood boasts of a stellar star cast that includes Jim Parsons – who plays real-life agent Henry Willson – and Jake Picking, who portrays legendary real-life actor Rock Hudson. Jeremy Pope plays screenwriter Archie who wants to get his script Dreamland on the silver screen. David Corenset, Darren Criss, Laura Harrier, Samara Weaving, Dylan McDermott, Holland Taylor, Patti LuPone, Joe Mantello, Maude Apatow, Rob Reiner, Mira Sorvino and Michelle Krusiec star in the series.
The series has a smattering of fictional and real-life characters that makes it an interesting premise. You can catch Hollywood on Netflix from May 1.
