Saif, Nawazuddin starrer Sacred Games 2 shelved? Here's what Netflix has to say

It was in September that Netflix announced the much anticipated second season of India's first homegrown original series, Sacred Games, the first season of which starred Saif Ali Khan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Radhika Apte in leads. However, recent reports suggested that Sacred Games 2 was in a lurch after its writer Varun Grover was accused of allegedly harassing a woman during his college days. And now we hear that the second season of the popular show might just be shelved altogether.

As per a report in a leading daily, the defamation notice from Vikas Bahl to his Phantom Film' partners, Anurag Kashyap and Vikramaditya Motwane, has let Netflix to consider its decision to continue its association with Phantom or not. For the unversed, Anurag and Vikramaditya had co-directed the first season of Sacred Games but they got embroiled into the Me Too controversy after their partner Vikas was accused of sexual harassment by a former woman employee.

While Anurag and Vikramaditya have kept mum on the Sacred Games 2 fiasco, Netflix informed the leading daily, "At this time, we are evaluating options on the path forward." Moreover, a leading website had earlier quoted a source as saying, "In the light of the recent allegations against one of the writers of Sacred Games, Varun Grover, Netflix is considering some options on how to tackle the situation. They may drop the successful web series completely or drop the name of the writer."

For now, we will have to wait what decision does the international streaming giant takes on the show. Sacred Games, a larger-than-life gangster-cop crime saga, is based on Vikram Chandra's novel titled by the same name.
