Baahubali’s Sivagami could inspire a Netflix series and we are cheering already

Yes, we are suckers for the world of Baahubali! We thrilled at the sights of Mahishmati, went bonkers over the language named Kiliki invented for the terrifying Kalakeya tribe in the film, and still go weak in the knees at the thought of the hunky Prabhas a.k.a. Amarendra Baahubali. Now here comes news to tingle our spine a little more… Producers Shobu Yarlagadda and Prasad Devineni are apparently planning a spin-off web series on one of the most impactful characters – Sivagami. She was the foster mother of Amarendra Baahubali, the fiery wife of Amarendra’s father's elder brother Bijjaladeva.

Essayed in the film by the strong and stunning Ramya Krishnan, the series will explore Sivagami’s earlier life. Fans will be eager to hear her unheard story and discover the circumstances that develop her personality.

The makers realized that with a glut of flourishing projects on the OTT platform, it made sense to have an offshoot of one of the most admired characters from the film. After thought and discussion, it was decided that Sivagami would be that character to carry forward via a web-series. As the web-series will focus on Sivagami’s early years, it is most likely that a new actress will be cast for the role. However, the very popular Ramya Krishnan could reappear in a cameo appearance.

Shooting for the series is set to tee off this August, at a lavish set at Ramoji Film City, Hyderabad. The multi-lingual web series is being planned to start off with the first season comprising 10 episodes. The project, as expected, will be fittingly large even though it is a web-series. It will be helmed by Gurmeet Singh, who was the associate producer on Inside Edge.

SS Rajamouli, the director of the Baahubali blockbusters, had taken to Twitter to share his excitement at the new partnership which will bring the experience to a wider swathe of audiences. He also added, “Extending the World of Baahubali beyond movies allows us to reach a larger audience and that is really exciting for me.” And for us!
