Puncchbeat not a spin off of Karan Johar's Student of the Year, clarifies Ekta Kapoor

Right from the days of his directorial debut Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998), Karan Johar is the father of 'high school' film genre. Naturally, when television czarina Ekta Kapoor announced her next project Puncch Beat revolving around school kids, comparisons started flooding her way as many touted it to be the spin off of KJo's Student of the Year. But Ekta is not the one to take any undue criticism in her stride, thus, setting the record straight the producer got the man himself to clear the air.

"Hey Karan Johar, for all the world who thinks I'm spinning off 'Student Of The Year' (with) 'Punch Beat', (it) is not that! But since you are the father of this 'genre' right from 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai' bless this show please and wish Rosewoodians good luck! We at ALT Balaji love you," Ekta tweeted on Saturday.
