Jr.NTR and Ram Charan reason why RRR was not selected as India’s official entry for Oscars 2023, say 'it was not about politics'

SS Rajamouli’s RRR has become a rage not only in India but all over the world. The film has grossed a whopping Rs 1200 crore at the box office worldwide and received several honours including a Best Original Song award for its song Naatu Naatu at the recently concluded Golden Globe Awards. The song has also been shortlisted in the same category of Oscars 2023 and the film has been submitted in all 14 categories at Academy Awards. However, fans of RRR where upset when Chello Show aka Last Film Show was chosen as India’s official entry for the Oscars 2023 instead of the film. Now, in a recent interview, Jr.NTR and Ram Charan have spoken about why their film RRR was not selected by the Indian jury picking up India’s official entry.

When asked about why their film was not chosen as India's official entry at the Oscars, the stars gave a very valid reason. Jr.NTR said, “I don’t think there is a lot of politics going on with what films should go. I think the panel, which is sitting down there knows what they do the best... Hindi has primarily been a national language for a very long time and that’s why it has taken prominence. For us, choose RRR or don’t choose RRR, RRR has already made us proud.” Ram Charan in a light-hearted manner said, “He (Jr. NTR) is being really humble but I want these two awards... I just don’t want to jinx it.”

In the same interview, the stars were asked whether they can visualize themselves swapping their roles in the film. Responding to this Jr.NTR said that his co-star Ram Charan is more of an introvert in real life, so he can definitely see him in more of the ‘water’ zone for the movie. He said that with Ram Charan you never know what is happening inside, unless he is willing to show it in the scene, because it is so peripheral in nature.

The RRR team is eyeing an Oscar nomination and is campaigning for the film in Hollywood. Today, SS Rajamouli lit up the internet by sharing pictures of meeting filmmaker Steven Spielberg and described it as a fanboy moment for him by calling the director ‘God’.
