Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan came under the Tamil Nadu government's scanner after announcing the birth of their twin baby boys. The star couple became parents via surrogacy. Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma Subramanian called for an inquiry into the matter as commercial surrogacy is illegal in India since January 25, 2022.
Now, after the couple submitted relevant documents to the government, the Health and Family Welfare Department confirmed in a report that Nayanthara and Vignesh violated no rules. "On investigating the doctor who provided treatment to the couple, it was discovered that the couple’s family doctor had provided a letter of recommendation in 2020 based on which treatment was provided," the report stated.
According to a report, the statement further mentioned that Nayanthara and Vignesh's doctor couldn't be contacted as they shifted out of India and weren't reachable on phone as well. The report stated that the surrogate mother entered into an agreement with the couple in November 2021 and the embryo was placed in the surrogate mother in March 2022.
The statement reportedly highlighted that the records of the treatment offered to Nayanthara weren't maintained properly and hence, the investigating team recommended action against the fertility clinic and asked for it to be closed temporarily.
After the Tamil Nadu government called for an inquiry, Nayanthara and Vignesh submitted an affidavit in which they revealed that their marriage was registered 6 years ago. They reportedly provided their marriage certificate for proof. The couple further clarified that their surrogate was a relative of the actress. Nayanthara and Vignesh mentioned that they registered for surrogacy in December 2021, when commercial surrogacy was legal in India.
On October 9, Vignesh announced the birth of their twin baby boys named Uyir & Ulagam. The star couple celebrated their first Diwali post-marriage with their children.
