The bigwigs in the South film industry are making the headlines today. Chiranjeevi, Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan and Dulquer Salmaan kept their fans excited with new announcements and developments with regards to their upcoming films. Here’s what’s making news today.

Chiranjeevi to unveil Acharya teaser on Republic Day?

Reportedly, the makers of Chiranjeevi’s Acharya are planning to release the teaser of the film on Republic Day (January 26). In 2019, Chiranjeevi had announced that he will be teaming up with director Koratala Siva for an action entertainer. The film went on floors in the first week of March 2020 and is now nearing completion. Reportedly, the film is an action drama where protagonists fight for justice of common man. Chiranjeevi will be seen playing the role of a government employee in the film. An official announcement about the teaser will be made soon. The film is produced by Ram Charan under the banner Konidela Production Company and features Kajal Aggarwal as the female lead.

Kamal Haasan posts first message post surgery

Kamal Haasan took to Twitter to post his first message after his ankle surgery. In his tweet he said that the surgery was successful and thanked the doctors who treated him at the Ramachandra Hospital in Chennai. It was a follow-up suregery. He also thanked his fans and his tweet in Tamil can be translated as, “The surgery was successful. Big thanks to the doctors' team at Sri Ramchandra Hospital. Till I recover, I wish to interact here and in the hearts of the people. People's love is my medicine. I wish to see them soon (sic)."

Rajinikanth not to resume Annaatthe shoot anytime soon?

Rajinikanth’s much-anticipated film Annaatthe’s shoot is not likely to resume anytime soon. The film went on floors in December 2019 but was recently stalled after crew members tested positive for coronavirus. The shoot was supposed to be wrapped by April but due to Covid-19 outbreak it was stopped. As per reports, the film’s shoot that was supposed to resume in February will not be happening as Rajinikanth has decided to not shoot for the film anytime soon. The superstar was recently admitted for blood pressure fluctuations. Reportedly, the actor might take rest till April and then think about completing Siruthai Siva’s film. Annaatthe stars many popular actors including Khushbu, Nayanthara, Meena, Keerthy Suresh, Prakash Raj and Soori in important roles.

Dulquer Salmaan's Kurup to release in theatres on May 28

Dulquer Salmaan’s Kurup is all set to have a theatrical release. According to reports the film will release in theatres on May 28. The film is directed by Srinath Rajendra and had Eid 2020 as its initial release date but was postponed due to outbreak of Covid-19. Kurup is based on the life of Sukumara Kurup, one of the most-wanted criminals in India. His name became the talk of the town, after the 1984 murder case, which involved the death of the film representative, Chacko. Dulquer will be seen essaying the titular role while Tovino Thomas will be seen playing the role of Chacko in the film.
