Tumbbad Film Review: Adventure and thrill up to the brim

Cast: Sohum Shah, Ronjini Chakraborty, Deepak Damle
Director: Rahi Anil Barve
Ratings: 3.5 Moons
Tumbbad is a mythological-horror film which is filled with adventure and fear. Co-produced by Colour Yellow Productions and Little Town Films Productions, the film is presented by Eros International and Aanand. L. Rai.
The story begins in 1918 and is gradually narrated in three different chapters. Talvar and Simran fame actor Sohum Shah plays the role of Vinayak, who is greedy since his childhood and seeks a treasure somewhere hidden in Tumbbad village. He ends up finding the treasure but at the stake of his life. Besides this, there is a lot more to the plot which will keep you glued till the end and give you goosebumps. There are certain sequences which will force you to think. Apart from several surprises, the film also conveys a strong message.
Sohum, who has also produced the film, will surely impress you with his power-packed performance. His hard work and dedication towards his character is clearly visible in many scenes.  In a few scenes, he will definitely shock you. The supporting cast that includes Jyoti Malshe, Deepak Damle, and Ronjini Chakraborty are equally good and have performed extremely well.

Rahi Anil Barve’s direction is noticeable. He remained successful in creating the horror-adventure atmosphere throughout. His unusual storytelling is appealing especially when the plot belongs to the heartland of India. The background score is very interesting. It is in sync with the storyline which is commendable. Writers Anand Gandhi, Adesh Prasad, Rahi Anil Barve, and Mitesh Shah deserve a round of applause for penning this heart-pounding horror. The cinematography by Pankaj Kumar makes the film look spooky and gritty.

However, Tumbbad is a low budget film. It is releasing with three other films- Helicopter Eela, Jalebi, and Fryday at the box office. It would be interesting to see that if Tumbbad can create some magic or not.
