Karan finally announces Dhadak and Sridevi must be the happiest!

After months of ‘Will he? Won’t he? When will he?’… Karan Johar went ahead and announced the upcoming Dharma Production film starring Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khattar. Via a teaser, he first built excitement about a big announcement, and the news came as promised – Dhadak is the name of the official Hindi remake of Nagraj Manjule's Marathi blockbuster Sairat, which was the first Marathi film to reach the Rs.100 crore mark.

The Dhadak poster features close-ups of the new pair in a warm embrace, against the backdrop of a desert. The film, directed by Shashank Khaitan, will tee off filming in northern India this December.

More than anyone, the announcement must come as a treat to Janhvi’s protective mother, Sridevi’s ears. It had been reported last month that the long delay from Dharma’s end in making an official announcement about Janhvi’s debut film. Even after news emerged of the lass signing on for the Sairat remake, the formal confirmation took its time coming.

Meanwhile, Karan Johar went ahead and announced Kesari starring Akshay Kumar, and Brahmastra starring Alia Bhatt, Ranbir Kapoor, and Amitabh Bachchan. The delay in mentioning her daughter’s Bollywood debut had apparently miffed the one-time No.1 Bollywood heroine, who felt it was high time her daughter’s debut had been formalized.

Sri and husband Boney Kapoor apparently even toyed with the idea of remaking Mr.India, with their elder daughter Janhvi in the lead.

Sridevi had supposedly even shared her fears with Karan Johar during the course of a Diwali party, and the filmmaker had assured her that the announcement would come once everything was in place.

Dhadak is scheduled for a July 6, 2018, release. But with Jahnvi's BFF Sara Ali Khan's Kedarnath being pushed to December 21, 2018, mommy-daughter Sridevi and Janhvi have a clear field to conquer!

…It has! Time to break out the champagne, Sri!
