TIFF 2019: Taika Waiti starrer ‘Jojo Rabbit’ wins the People’s Choice Award; here is the complete list of winners

The people and the juries have spoken. The award winners for 2019 Toronto International Film Festival have been announced. The film festival often is taken as an indicator of the winners of the upcoming Academy Awards popularly known as the Oscars and this time around once again the winners are touted to land the coveted golden statuette as well.

Director Taika Waititi’s Jojo Rabbit took home the Toronto International Film Festival’s 2019 Audience Award. Noah Baumbach’s Marriage Story and Bong Joon Ho’s Parasite claimed the runner-up prizes. Here is the full list of the winners as the Film Festival:

The jury, selected from the Network for the Promotion of Asian Pacific Cinema, included Chairperson Beckie Stocchetti, Kanako Hayashi, and Albert Shin.

Delphine

Winner: Chloé Robichaud’s Delphine

Honourable Mention: The jury awarded a special mention to Theodore Ushev's The Physics of Sorrow for its impressive filmmaking and detailed craftsmanship.

CITY OF TORONTO AWARD FOR BEST CANADIAN FIRST FEATURE FILM

Winner: Matthew Rankin’s The Twentieth Century

CANADA GOOSE AWARD FOR BEST CANADIAN FEATURE FILM

Winner: Sophie Deraspe’s Antigone

Honourable Mention: Elle-Máijá Tailfeathers and Kathleen Hepburn’s The Body Remembers When the World Broke Open.
