She felt it was the right moment: Prabal Gurung on Alia Bhatt refusing to attend the Met Gala earlier

The dramatic costume party of the Met Gala for the year might have come to an end but the sartorial zest lingers on. And why not, there were too many hot takeaways this time and our Bollywood’s ‘chand’ Alia Bhatt was one of them. Making a smashing debut, the actress arrived on the red carpet and how! Fitting to this year’s theme, ‘Karl Lagerfeld: A line of Beauty,’ Alia’s custom look by Nepalese-American designer Prabal Gurung was based on Claudia Schiffer's look from the iconic Chanel 1992 brides collection designed by Karl Lagerfeld.

And now, appreciating her maiden appearance at the fashion soiree, Prabal shared a heartwarming post for the actress. Recalling the first time he met Alia at filmmaker Karan Johar’s 40th birthday party, he mentioned having immediately taken by her. The designer called her a powerhouse performer and a good, loyal friend and that’s what made this debut extremely special. The designer even said that a MET moment will alia was being discussed for a long time but it was the actress who kept refusing the offer. “We’ve talked about a Met moment for a long time. I have invited her before, but she’s always been wise enough to say let’s wait. This time, however, she felt it was the right moment, so she said yes and off we went to our wildest imaginations along with Anaita (Shroff Adajania) to create a homage to Karl that celebrated her heritage

Alia’s Met Gala dress was curated with 100,000 elegant pearls hand embroidered in Mumbai on satin-faced organza from Europe and was put together in the designer’s atelier in New York. The lacy fingerless gloves paid homage to Karl and his legacy. Her divine look was teamed with a pair of studded pearl earrings, rings and pearl-embedded ASAxSKO heels.
