Pandora becomes game changer with switch to sustainable production of lab-made diamonds

Pandora, one of the biggest producers of jewellery in the world announced a major change in their production plan. A game-changer for the entire industry – they announced their decision to stop mining for diamonds and instead, switch the lab-made diamonds in order to push forward their environment-friendly plans.

The Copenhagen-based company clarified that the lab-made diamonds will have the same ‘optical, thermal, and physical characteristics as the mined diamonds except, this will be a lot more sustainable. The collection, called Pandora Brilliance, will be launched in the United Kingdom and is expected to be rolled out globally next year. The company had already announced its switch to using recycled gold and silver, pushing the sustainability plan forward at full steam.

The lab-grown stones will have the same standard of quality verification as the mined diamonds before selling, which are measured by the 4Cs – cut, color, clarity, and carat. A much more environmentally friendly option, the collection will be made with 60% more renewable energy and by the time of global launch, it will be 100% renewable energy.

Pandora CEO Alexander Lacik said in a statement, "They are as much a symbol of innovation and progress as they are of enduring beauty and stand as a testament to our ongoing and ambitious sustainability agenda," "Diamonds are not only forever, but for everyone."
