Featuring colorful jewels such as emeralds, sapphires and rubies carved with leaves and flowers in addition to the single-cut diamonds gives the vibe of an old-European and famous Art Deco style often seen in the artistry of the French jewelry house.
The piece originally was to be featured in Sotheby’s April live auction of magnificent jewels with an estimated price range between US$600,000 and US$800,000, the same level Sotheby’s offered the piece for online, before it garnered the exorbitant price for exotic bracelet. “We have seen it before in works by Cartier, but this was a wonderful additional flourish or wink from whoever the designer or craftsman was,”says Catharine Becket, Sotheby’s New York head of its “magnificent jewels” auctions.
