Birthday Special: Abhishek Bachchan looking for a Dhoomtastic journey after Manmarziyaan

And, a Happy Birthday to Abhishek Bachchan. He’s 43 today; been in Bollywood for 18 years; has had more flops than hits; got disillusioned by his work and took a two year break; then, made a comeback with so much promise in Manmarziyaan last September that his father, the legendary Amitabh Bachchan, wept. Now there’s talk of him doing Shaailesh (Tanu Weds Manu, Aligarh) Singh’s adaptation of the French crime thriller Nuit Blanche about a detective fighting to save his son who is kidnapped by a drug lord. Bollywood trade sources, remembering his performance in films like Sarkar, Guru, Bunty Aur Babli, Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, Dhoom 2, Dostana and Paa, expect big things from Abhishek. Especially after his emotional admission on Koffee with Karan 6 that he’s “been part of big-budget films but ended up standing behind somebody else in them”. Then, the Bachchan determination asserted itself and Abhishek added, “I didn’t come into the film industry, if I may say so, with all due respect, to stand behind anyone.” Recommended Read: Aishwarya, Navya, Shweta and Madhuri Dixit post greetings and memories for Abhishek on his 43rd birthday [caption id="attachment_125279" align="aligncenter" width="1200"] Abhishek in a still from Manmarziyaan[/caption] There’s also the buzz that Abhishek and Aishwarya are looking for a suitable script to do a film together after the star couple opted out of Anurag Kashyap’s proposed Gulab Jamun last month. The film, which would have reunited Abhishek and Ash after Mani Ratnam’s epic adventure Raavan in 2010, would have gone on the floors this month. It would also have brought Amitabh Bachchan together with his son and daughter-in-law eight years after they were last seen in Ram Gopal Varma’s Sarkar Raj in 2010. He suggested to Abhishek that he drop the Bachchan from his name. But Abhishek, drawing himself up to his full height, replied, “Bachchan is everything for me, how can I do that?” We applaud the actor.
