Birthday Special: Rise and Shine, Hrithik Roshan! Tracking the path of his stardom in Bollywood

Good looks, good looks and good looks - Hrithik Roshan is the personification of the phrase Greek God but it just doesn't stop at his appearance because of the fact that he is a definite actor and a highly-regarded star. It's a good day to look back at Hrithik's journey in his career spanning almost two decades in the film industry as he turns 45 on January 10. Hrithik, son of filmmaker Rakesh Roshan, made a feisty debut in 2000 with Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai opposite newcomer Ameesha Patel. It wasn't his first appearance on screen though considering the fact that he had already featured in films such as Aap Ke Deewane and Bhagwaan Dada as a child artiste. Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai, though, escalated Hrithik to the path of superstardom almost overnight. Pyaar Hai didn't perform as expected at the box office - Fiza, Mission Kashmir and Yaadein were rated well by critics though. It was 2001's Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham..., directed by Karan Johar, that provided a new direction to Hrithik's career. The early 2000s was a rinse and repeat of the scenario prior to K3G as Hrithik appeared in commercial failures such as Aap Mujhe Achche Lagne Lage, Na Tum Jaano Na Hum and Main Prem Ki Diwaani Hoon. Pyaar Hai. Courtesy: His father, who directed Hrithik in Koi... Mil Gaya - the film not only received several awards but also fared exceptionally well at the box office. Koi... Mil Gaya was followed by Lakshya, Krrish, Dhoom 2 and Jodhaa Akbar - equally successful. Krrish 3 and Bang Bang! released soon after but since 2016 - Hrithik hasn't been in a pretty good place professionally as well as personally. The actor mired himself in a public feud with his Krrish 3 co-star Kangana Ranaut as both slapped legal notices against each other. It began with Hrithik sending a notice to Kangana, who apparently referred to him as a 'silly ex' in an interview. She responded with notice as well - to cut a long story short, Kangana claims that she dated him while he has refuted it all along. [caption id="attachment_195290" align="aligncenter" width="647"] Hrithik and Kangana in a still from Krrish 3[/caption] While promoting her film Simran in 2017, Kangana had demanded an apology from Hrithik while he responded through a statement, in which he said that he had never met her alone and that he was 'dragged into a dirty perverse mess.' The matter was silenced thereafter but it subtly affected Hrithik's appearance on screen as ever since the controversy, we've only seen Hrithik in 2017's Kaabil. 2019, though, is expected to mark his revival with Vikas Bahl's Super 30, based on the life of mathematician Anand Kumar and his educational program. The film's posters were released in September and garnered a whole lot of love online. We cannot wait to witness Hrithik's magic on celluloid yet again. In spite of their divorce in 2014, Hrithik and Sussanne maintain a cordial relationship and are often spotted on movie and lunch dates apart from holidays.
