From breaking the 'Sari notion' to reinventing 'Male-O-Drama', everything you need to know about the Wanderlust collection by H&M × Sabyasachi

To satisfy our cravings for sartorial escapism right now and make this pandemic more interesting, global fashion brand H&M created an Indian designer collaboration with the iconic Calcutta label, Sabyasachi. It was finally launched on August 12, 2021, after a year's delay post the official announcement due to COVID-19.

The high street stalwart featuring the Indian label launched the collection in 18 countries and across 48 markets globally. The countries where the collection arrived are India, USA, South Africa, Great Britain, Austria, Mexico, Japan, Sweden, Philippines, Vietnam, South Korea, Germany, Spain, Portugal, and Belgium. Internationally, the collection is made available in selected H&M stores and online on HM.com. Whereas in India, it was available on Myntra as well.

Themed 'Wanderlust', the collection consists of both menswear and womenswear bursting with rich patterns and luxurious fabrics across modern as well as classic Indian silhouettes that the two brands hope will 'resonate with the global nomad mindset'. The affordable pieces are actually a 'distinctly modern take on Boho chic'.

While the beautiful printed dresses and separate sets were busy being the first ones to be sold out, PeepingMoon decided to review this epic ready-to-wear drop!

SAREE NAREE

The most anticipated piece indeed! Whenever India is mentioned, people immediately think of gorgeous saree sophistication. The traditional Indian textile and print traditions that have been brought to life are the key highlights of this contemporary collection. An excellent representation modernized by meticulously crafted vintage block prints and multicoloured silhouettes. The airy red and white chiffon saree with a wide, embroidered border around the edges makes you time travel back into the vintage realm of nostalgia.

CHIFFON CHARM

Voluminous and well-structured tops and trousers were dipped in patterned chiffon crêpe for the Wanderlust collection. Wide floral trousers in white and blue are the softest leg drape to exist ever! The refreshing feminine prints remind us of a careless summer by the beach. From khaki beige tie belt shorts to lace bralettes and chiffon kaftan blouses, it really brings forth the eastern and western cultures and everything in between through its offerings.

PLAYFUL PRINTS

Kaftans, Kurtis, co-ords, short and long dresses were an instant sell-out. And it's not difficult to see why? They promise to bring relaxed sophistication to everyday life in an understated yet glamorous style.

All the pieces are certainly created to be worn in layers and mixed with accessories for the penultimate bohemian glam vibe. This is the perfect modern statement for glamourous loungewear which brings together a culturally chic yet eclectic in your ensemble.

SILKY EMBRACE

Life is much better with an elegant scarf resting in harmony with your tresses. Hence, the unmatchable delight of witnessing long scarfs made of soft, patterned silk in this launch! Although, the most revered is a blue and off-white sun visor in a patterned silk blend with an embroidered tiger on the front and long ties at the back. Every headgear here would be 100% Audrey Hepburn approved!

REGAL JEWELS

One look at this collection's ethereal accessories and only one thought will enter anyone's mind. The jewellery is everything Julia Robert's character, Elizabeth Gilbert from 'Eat Play Love' would don. This collection offers magnificent ethnic pieces with a modern twist. From a classy cotton canvas shopper imprinted with a Bengal tiger in golden to antique coin-themed neckpieces, they housed it all. Embellished and engraved rings that signify royalty. Check. Red and ebony sunglasses. Double-check. Dreamy boho chains, bracelets, earrings, spiky leather clutches etc. Checkity check-check.

MALE-O-DRAMA

The worth of a collection is easily defined by how interesting its menswear is. In a space where everything is seen and overdone, this collection offered a visual treasure. A result of unconventional cotton prints, decorative stitching and enchanting patterns in white, khaki beige and all kinds of blue. The range offered more than we could ask for; from cotton canvas biker jackets to jeans and utility drama. For men, a Henley shirt, high waist wide chinos and a photographer jacket are an instant add-to-cart. Their minimal accessories included sunglasses, chunky bracelets, leather chappals and a beige cotton canvas belt. Oh so Rusell Brand!
