Veteran actresses Shabana Azmi and Soni Razdan along with filmmaker Shyam Benegal attended filmmaker Kalpana Lajmi’s funeral at the Oshiwara Crematorium in Mumbai on September 23. Best known for making films such as Rudaali and Chingaari, Ms Lajmi died at around 4:30 am at the Kokilaben Hospital in Mumbai today.

The filmmaker directed Azmi in her 1986 film Ek Pal, which also co-starred Naseeruddin Shah and Farooq Shaikh.

On Twitter, Razdan wrote a message for Ms Lajmi as she tweeted that she will miss her immensely.

Ms Lajmi started her career as an assistant director with legendary filmmaker Shyam Benegal.

Ms Lajmi died after battling kidney cancer. She was diagnosed with the disease in 2017.
