Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh opened the latest season of Karan Johar's popular chat show, Koffee With Karan, on October 26, 2023. The couple spoke about the dreamy proposal, marriage, mental health and more in the episode. Apart from talking about her love story with Ranveer, Deepika also discussed being in an open relationship with him before tying the knot. Her honesty and revelation sparked controversy on social media as a section of netizens stooped low to comment on her relationships and marriage. 

Now, in the latest episode of Koffee With Karan 8, Karan Johar addressed the criticism while talking to Aditya Roy Kapur and Arjun Kapoor. The filmmaker slammed netizens for passing comments on Deepika and Ranveer. He said, "I felt that it was one of the most honest episodes and the most heartfelt episodes I did with Deepika and Ranveer. I think all three of kind of came clean on so much of our emotional heft, so many of our feelings. And then there was a ridiculous kind of aftereffect. I just want to put it out there that episode angered me, and the reaction angered me. I thought it was one of our best episodes."

He added, "They were outstandingly honest. They were earnest. They spoke so much. They shared so much. They were so gracious. And then you're f*cking talking about some nonsense. I am like, ‘What do you know about somebody else’s personal life and marriage?' Tu apne ghar pe dekh na (Look at what's happening at your own home) is what I wanted to tell them. I wanted to show them my f*cking middle finger! I am like, you know, just shut up."

On the premiere episode of Koffee With Karan 8, Deepika said, "I did meet other people, but I wasn’t interested or excited by anyone else that I was seeing. In my mind, I was committed to him. So I would meet other people but at the back of my head, it was like, I am going back to him."
