The Archies director Zoya Akhtar reveals Agastya Nanda didn’t want to act, says ‘he is into business’

Zoya Akhtar’s directorial The Archies finally released on Netflix and is winning hearts. Featuring Suhana Khan, Khushi Kapoor, Aditi Dot, Agastya Nanda and Vedang Raina in the lead, the film is an Indian adaptation of American comic series  with the same name.

In a recent interview, the filmmaker went on to reveal that Agastya who portrayed the role of Archie Andrews, didn’t want to act initially. She also shared that all the actors were auditioned before finalizing and the creators wanted fresh faces to feature in the project. Zoya further revealed that although Agastya didn’t want to act, he came for audition.

Zoya said, “Everyone knew it’s an ensemble cast of seven characters. Every character has a beginning, middle, and end. They know what to accept. Agastya, Suhana, and others were all auditioned. We wanted the characters in the age group of 17 years. Agastya didn’t want to act. He is into business but we tested him and he came for an audition.”

She continued, “Because these comic characters are iconic, fresh and new faces were ideal to be cast. If you take any star, they would come with baggage, so, we wanted fresh new actors so they look believable. Hence, we cast newcomers; their energy and excitement are contagious.”
