Karan Johar returned to direction after 7 years with Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt's Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani in July which turned out to be one of the biggest films of the year. 

In a recent interview, the director compared shooting RRKPK and his first directorial Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and revealed certain scenes in his films were shot without actually notifying the actors. In Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Shah Rukh Khan (Rahul) and Kajol (Anjali) shot for the scene where they reunite after 8 years without information.

The filmmaker planned it before and already instructed the DOP, Santosh to start shooting before the rehearsal. Post this Shah Rukh asked Karan about the take to which he replied, “No, we have already rolled,” leaving the actor surprised. 

Karan also admitted using the same strategy while shooting his latest Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani with Ranveer and Alia.

Directed by Karan, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani released on July 28, 2023, whereas Kuch Kuch Hota Hai which starred Shah Rukh and Kajol in the lead, and released on October 16, 1998.
