Karan Johar's popular chat show, Koffee With Karan, is back with a new season. It is streaming on Disney+ Hotstar with fresh episodes premiering every Thursday. Koffee With Karan 8 has an interesting lineup of celebrities, but fans miss Shah Rukh Khan. At an event held in Mumbai on Monday, Karan addressed the reason behind not inviting the superstar who is family to him.
Karan said at the Koffee With Karan 8 event, "I just know if there is any megastar who has earned his right to speak when he needs to, it is Shah Rukh Khan. I, of all the people, have been his closest friend and family and should understand that. I have that leverage because he is family to me. I can ask him and request him and he has never said no to me. So, I never asked because I know he didn’t want to be in that situation of dilemma, where he has to say no to me. I pick and choose what I ask for. He matters the world to me. He's my family. He's my everything."
He further added, "When the right time is there, I will ask him. I know when he has to want to speak, he will. When he does, it’ll be extraordinary because no one gives interviews better than Shah Rukh Khan. Nobody speaks better than him. When he speaks on a global platform, he's the wizard of words and truly the emperor of not just entertainment, not just on-screen but off-screen. Our collective love for him is because of the person he has been. You love him as every character, from Raj to Jawan but the Shah Rukh Khan we all know, I don't know a single person who will walk out of the room not weak-kneed or absolutely in love with him."
When Karan was asked whether he misses Shah Rukh, the filmmaker replied, "I don’t miss him that way, because I have ‘Koffee with Karan’ with him every night. Almost every evening, Shah Rukh, Gauri (Khan, wife), his family and I meet. I’m having those conversations. I understand why you might miss him, but I’m satiated because he’s a big, huge part of my existence."
