It's like putting psychedelic light in Ajanta or disco music in Taj Mahal: Javed Akhtar on ongoing trend of mixing up old songs with rap

Javed Akhtar needs no introduction. Beginning in the year of 1960’s as an assistant writer he went on to make lyrics for a number of hit songs over his career. In a recent interview, the lyricist commented on the  ongoing trend of recreating old songs and adding rap versions to them. Talking about the same, he said that reviving the songs is a good thing but the commercial side doesn’t bring a healthy attitude.

He further added about the importance of ability to preserve the value of the song. He said,"You take a song with beautiful lyrics, and good meaning and then add your own bizarre antras to it, that is not done. It's like putting psychedelic light in Ajanta or disco music in Taj Mahal. That is not done."

Javed ji has been a recipient of many awards during his career and is a winner of 5 national awards, including Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan.
