Courtroom dramas have been the soul of the Indian film fraternity. Blending important social topics with a thrilling and gritty narrative, filmmakers have raised the bar with every new film. Now, a courtroom drama in the form of OMG 2 is about to release on August 11, 2023. 

After the humongous success of OMG, which was also a courtroom drama, Akshay Kumar returns with the sequel but this time, it is with Pankaj Tripathi and Yami Gautam. As the countdown begins, let's take a look at 5 stellar courtroom dramas that shook the film industry and audience. 

Pink

"No means no," declared Amitabh Bachchan and theatres went silent. Pink is a critically acclaimed courtroom drama revolving around three young women seeking legal assistance after being harassed by influential men in Delhi. To get them justice, a senior lawyer is appointed. Pink starred Amitabh Bachchan with Taapsee Pannu, Kirti Kulhari, Andrea Tariang, Angad Bedi, Raashul Tanden and Tushar Pandey. 

Jolly LLB

Jolly LLB is a sharp take on corruption and loopholes in the judiciary system. Headlined by Arshad Warsi, it is about an inexperienced lawyer who gets to fight a case against a successful lawyer who is defending the son of a rich man who is accused of killing six people sleeping on pavements through rash driving.

Mulk

Rishi Kapoor, Taapsee Pannu, Prateik Babbar, Neena Gupta, Manoj Pahwa, Prachee Shah, Rajat Kapoor, Kumud Mishra and Ashutosh Rana's Mulk raises questions that were never asked by filmmakers in Indian films. The divide in religion, countries and citizenship is rightfully questioned in this intense courtroom drama.

Shaurya

Kay Kay Menon, Rahul Bose, Javed Jaffrey, Deepak Dobriyal and Minissha Lamba's Shaurya is reportedly inspired by the Hindi play Court Martial written by Swadesh Deepak. It is about two army lawyers who are pitted against each other in the courtroom. The story begins after a Captain is accused of killing a senior officer.

Section 375 

The premise of Akshaye Khanna, Richa Chadda, Rahul Bhat and Meera Chopra's Section 375 is based on Article 375 of the Indian Constitution, which defines rape as sexual intercourse with a woman against her will, without her consent, by coercion, misrepresentation or fraud or at a time when she has been intoxicated or drugged and in any case if she is under 16 years of age.
