Jio Cinema today released the teaser of its upcoming web series Taali starring Sushmita Sen. The actress is playing the role of transgender activist Shreegauri Sawant, a transgender activist and the trustee of the Sai Savli Foundation Trust which helps people suffering from HIV/AIDS, and has been fighting for the transgender community's rights in the country. 

The teaser has Sushmita essaying Sawant’s inspiring journey from her college days to her transition and significant contributions to revolutionizing the transgender movement in India. Credit where due, Sushmita owns the frame with her fierce act.

Before Sushmita, other Bollywood actors like Paresh Rawal, Akshay Kumar, Vijay Raaz, Sharad Kelkar, and Prakash Raj have essayed the role of a transgender/eunuch on celluloid. 

Created by Arjun Singgh Baran and Kartk D Nishandar, directed by  Ravi Jadhav, and written by Kshitij Patwardhan, Taali will shed light on transgender activist Shreegauri Sawant’s relentless pursuit for the recognition of the third gender in India. The series will premiere on August 15, 2023.
