Request our filmmakers and actors to own up to IFFI Goa also: Khushbu Sundar represents Indian cinema at Cannes, turn heads in a Kanjeevaram saree

Khushbu Sundar represented India at Cannes Film Festival this year and spoke not only about Indian cinema but also about IFFI Goa. She asked Indian actors and filmmakers to own IFFI Goa the same way. She also spoke about representing India through her love for sarees as she sashayed on the Cannes red carpet in India’s traditional garb.

Speaking to a portal, Khushbu said, “As a representative of Indian cinema on a global platform, I want to make a very humble request to our filmmakers and actors who take the pains of spending so much money and going to Cannes. I wish they would own up to IFFI Goa also. So many international filmmakers at Cannes asked me about IFFI and wanted to be part of it. We need to truly celebrate IFFI Goa, which brings filmmakers and films from all around the world. It is a prestigious international festival too.”

Walking the Cannes red carpet in a pretty kanjeevaram saree, Khushbu said, “People who know me will always vouch for it that I wear only sarees when it comes to events, because I think that’s the best way to represent India. We have actors who are brand ambassadors for a particular brand and they don’t have a choice but to present themselves differently. We can’t complain because that is the kind of compulsion they have due to the work they do. For me, it’s extremely important that I wear something that represents my country. I was at Cannes representing India and what is more Indian than a South Indian silk saree?”

She reiterated the fact that it is Indian cinema and not Bollywood or Kollywood and said, “These terms get irritating after a point of time. We should stop using these terms and talk just about Indian cinema.”
