Vipul Amrutlal Shah’s The Kerala Story, a short-budget film, has globally impacted the hearts and souls of the audience and does not seem to slow down in its surge of box office success. The film delves into the life stories of a converted Muslim woman and her experience of being misled and exploited by religious vanguards, converted into an ISIS terrorist, and transported to Syria. However, the film faced a lot of hurdles by political parties who wanted a stay on its release and a few state governments that had refused to screen it in theatres. However, the Supreme Court of India paused the West Bengal’s ban on the film today and asked the makers to ensure that the film carries a disclaimer stating that it is a fictionalised account of events and there is no data to back its claims that 32,000 women in Kerala were forced to convert to Islam and join ISIS.
A bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud said the onus to maintain law and order relies on the state government and it is its duty as the film has been granted certification by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The court ordered, “Prima facie we are of the view that the prohibition by West Bengal is not tenable on the basis of material before. Thus the order banning the film is stayed.”It also observed that “bad films bomb at the box office”, and said, “The legal provision cannot be used to put a premium on public intolerance. Otherwise, all films will find themselves in this spot.”

Yesterday, producer Vipul Amrutlal Shah invited victims of religious conversion to a media event where he donated a whopping amount of 51 Lakhs as an initial amount. 27 victims attended the big event with complete security and reckoned forces with Shah to rejuvenate their lives and start off fresh.
The Kerala Story is produced, developed, and distributed by Sunshine Pictures which is owned by Vipul Amrutlal Shah. Adah Sharma leads the cast along with Yogita Bihani, Sonia Balani and Siddhi Idnani. The Kerala Story is bankrolled by Sunshine Pictures Private Limited, founded by Vipul Amrutlal Shah who is the Producer, Creative Director and the co-writer of the film film co-produced by Aashin A Shah and directed by Sudipto Sen.
