Tears of joy are rolling and no, they ain't stopping anytime soon. After months of campaigning and promotions in the US, SS Rajamouli and the team of RRR will return to India with an Oscar for Naatu Naatu. The dance number won the Best Original Song award on Sunday (Monday in India) at the prestigious ceremony held in Los Angeles.
Just like millions of Indians, Deepika Padukone, who was present at the 95th Academy Awards as one of the presenters, got emotional and was seen with moist eyes. As soon as RRR was declared the winner in the Best Original Song category, Rajamouli, Ram Charan, Jr. NTR and the entire team jumped out of their seats. During the celebration, the camera also highlighted Deepika's reaction.
Deepika represented India as a presenter. She came on the stage to announce the live performance of Naatu Naatu by American artistes. In her speech, the actress said, "An irresistibly catchy chorus, electrifying beats and killer dance moves to match have made this next song a global sensation. It plays during a pivotal scene in RRR, a movie about the friendship between real-life Indian revolutionaries, Alluri Sitarama Raju and Komaram Bheem. In addition to being sung in Telugu and illustrating the film’s anti-colonialist themes, it’s also a total banger. It’s got millions of views on YouTube and Tiktok, has audiences dancing in movie theatres all around the world, and is also the first song ever from an Indian production to be nominated for an Oscar."
Veteran music composer M. M. Keeravaani and lyricist Chandrabose received the award for Naatu Naatu.
