Shahid Kapoor recently made his OTT debut with Prime Video’s web series Farzi which is directed by director duo Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK. The web series has been well-received and going great guns on the OTT platform. It also stars Vijay Sethupathi, Raashii Khanna, Kay Kay Menon and Bhuvan Arora. In a recent interview, Shahid spoke about his two-decade-long Bollywood career and how he hated his ‘cute’ image but learned ‘to be graceful and accept it’.
Shahid, who made his debut in the romantic comedy Ishq Vishk with Amrita Rao was labeled the ‘chocolate boy’ for cute looks. He won the Filmfare Best Male Debut Award for his performance but had trouble shedding that image for a long time. Recently, he spoke about being labeled ‘cute’ and said, “I hate that word Vanilla. You know, I used to hate it when people say 'Oh you are cute'. I hate it. I was like 'Why would you say that to anybody.' I never liked that word. I have learned to be graceful and accept it now, that people throw it at me. But I just felt that it is very limiting.”
He further spoke about his character Sunny from Farzi and said, “I am attracted to unconventional characters. You have to be an artist, which is what Farzi is all about. So, I think some of my personal angst is attached to Sunny in Farzi. And I wanted to express myself, you know. I wanted people to see my soul, to understand my emotions, to experience my mind, and not just stay busy with what is outside. That's important, it matters."
Shahid stars as Sunny in Farzi, an artist who turns to counterfeiting money with his exceptional artistic skills in order to save his grandfather’s printing press. He will be next seen in Ali Abbas Zafar's Bloody Daddy and an untitled film with Kriti Sanon.
