Ashneer, who is best known for being a Shark on Shark Tank Season 1, made the revelation in his autobiography titled Doglapan. In the chapter titled How Kiara Advani Almost Got Me Divorced, the entrepreneur highlighted one of his meetings with a friend and a fellow founder at his workplace. When he asked the friend about getting married, he told Ashneer about a matchmaker he hired, just like Indian Matchmaking's Sima Taparia, who 'specialised in Bollywood alliances'. When Ashneer asked him about his options, the friend said Kiara was an ideal match.

The matter escalated when Ashneer joked and told his mother, "Aap ko pata nahi hai market mein aaj kal kya chal raha hai. Aaj ke din shaadi ho rahi hoti na toh Kiara Advani ka rishta aata aapke bete ke liye." The entrepreneur's wife Madhuri took the joke seriously.
Madhuri refused to talk to Ashneer on their flight post the conversation. When he coaxed her into talking, she said, "Tumhe Kiara Advani se shaadi karni hai." For the next 30 minutes, she lashed out at him for his remark and reminded him of the time she stood by him and married him when he was nobody.
