Karisma Kapoor to star alongside Sara Ali Khan in Homi Adajania’s Murder Mubarak

Karisma Kapoor is returning to the movies! The Bollywood actress who ruled the 90s and early 2000s with films like Raja Babu, Raja Hindustani, Coolie No. 1, and Dil Toh Pagal Hai, among others, is all set to make her comeback to films almost 11 years later. Although the actress was seen in cameo roles in Bombay Talkies (2013) and Zero (2018) and has done two web series (Mentalhood and the yet-to-release Brown), her last feature film project was Vikram Bhatt’s supernatural thriller, Dangerous Ishq, way back in 2012. Karishma has lately been actively looking for film projects and has finally locked in a crime thriller, backed by Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films.

Peepingmoon.com has exclusively learned that Karishma Kapoor will make her big-screen comeback with Homi Adajania’s Murder Mubarak. Karishma will play a pivotal role alongside Sara Ali Khan and Vijay Varma in this Delhi-based whodunit thriller. The film is an ensemble drama, and Karishma is the latest major addition to the film, which already has Pankaj Tripathi and Dimple Kapadia on board for principal roles. Homi and Dinesh Vijan have planned to make this film along the lines of the Hollywood thriller, Knives Out, bringing an assemblage of top talents together on screen. The film is currently in pre-production and will go on the floor in March 2023.

As we revealed earlier, Murder Mubarak is based on Anuja Chauhan’s bestselling novel, Club You to Death. It’s a gripping thriller set in the fictional world of the elitist, antique, and most respected Delhi Turf Club (DTC) and follows the lives of two ex-lovers as they help ACP Bhavani Singh crack a murder case that takes place within the club’s premises. Sara Ali Khan and Vijay Varma will play the ex-lovers with a lot of history and resentment and no proper closure, while Pankaj Tripathi is said to be playing a genius, garrulous, well-mannered 50-year-old cop, ACP Bhavani Singh. The details of Karishma Kapoor and Dimple Kapadia’s characters, however, have been kept under wraps for now.

Karishma is said to have signed on the dotted line and is excited to work with Sara Ali Khan, who is her brother-in-law Saif Ali Khan’s daughter from his first marriage to Amrita Singh. She has previously also worked with Saif on Sooraj Barjatya’s classic family drama, Hum Saath Saath Hain (1999). Meanwhile, Karishma’s next web series, Brown, has been selected for the Berlinale Series Market Selects of the 2023 Berlin International Film Festival. The Abhinay Deo-directed neo-noir drama series stars Karishma in the role of a suicidal alcoholic who, along with a widower with survivor’s guilt, must push their personal demons aside to find a serial killer whose belief in his divine purpose makes him unstoppable. Zee Studios is producing this show, also starring Surya Sharma, Soni Razdan, and Helen in pivotal roles.
