In memory of Lata Mangeshkar, 40-foot veena gets unveiled on singer's 93rd birth anniversary

The country is remembering Lata Mangeshkar on her 93rd birth anniversary today. Known as the Nightingale of India, she inspired millions to pursue singing as a career and curated the golden phase of music in Hindi cinema with her magic. 

On her birth anniversary, the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, announced that a chowk in Ayodhya has been named after Lata didi. In a tweet, PM Modi said, "Remembering Lata Didi on her birth anniversary. There is so much that I recall…the innumerable interactions in which she would shower so much affection. I am glad that today, a Chowk in Ayodhya will be named after her. It is a fitting tribute to one of the greatest Indian icons."

Not just this, a 40-foot veena, which weighs 14 tonnes, has been installed in Ayodhya as a tribute to the legendary singer. The musical instrument is associated with Goddess Saraswati and it has been installed at the Lata Mangeshkar Chowk. It was inaugurated by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath today. Reportedly, PM Modi virtually attended the inauguration. 

Lata Mangeshkar, a Bharat Ratna, breathed her last on February 6, at Mumbai's Breach Candy hospital after suffering multi-organ failure and chest congestion.
