Big Bull of Dalal Street, Rakesh Jhunjhunwala breathes his last at 62 years

Billionaire business magnate, stock trader and investor Rakesh Jhunjhunwala breathed his last at the age of 62 years on Sunday morning. As per media reports, he was brought dead to the Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai at 6:45 am. He was rushed to hospital after suffering a cardiac arrest but was declared dead on arrival by the hospital authorities. He was discharged from the same hospital a few weeks ago after being treated for kidney-related issues. The veteran trader-cum-investor was also known as the Big Bull of Dalal Street, and had a net worth of around USD 5.5 billion according to Forbes list.

Jhunjhunwala had recently ventured into the aviation industry with Akasa Air which took flight on August 7. Besides being an investor, he was the chairman of Aptech Limited and Hungama Digital Media Entertainment Pvt. Ltd. He was also among the directors of several Indian firms. He was also an advisor to the India's International Movement to United Nations. Jhunjhunwala was suffering from multiple health issues and came to the launch of Akasa Air on a wheelchair.

He was popularly dubbed as “India’s Warren Buffet.” Jhunjhunwala was born on July 5, 1960. He was married to Rekha Jhunjunwala, who is also an investor. Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled his death and wrote, “Rakesh Jhunjhunwala was indomitable. Full of life, witty and insightful, he leaves behind an indelible contribution to the financial world. He was also very passionate about India’s progress. His passing away is saddening. My condolences to his family and admirers. Om Shanti.”

Besides, stock market and investing, Jhunjhunwala was also a philanthropist. His philanthropist portfolio includes healthcare, nutrition, education, etc.
