In 2018, Sara Ali Khan made her Koffee With Karan debut in its 6th season with her father Saif Ali Khan. Back then, she was preparing for her big-screen debut, Kedarnath. On the couch, Sara was at her candid best and even revealed her liking for Kartik Aaryan. Months later, there were rumours that the young actors grew closer to each other and started dating on the sets of Love Aaj Kal. Just around the film's release, Sara and Kartik broke up.
Now, in an interview with an entertainment portal, Karan Johar, the host of Koffee With Karan, confirmed the news of Sara and Kartik's relationship. He said, "I call this couch the couch of manifestation. I was like telling Kriti (Sanon) the other day, I said just say a name! Because Katrina (Kaif) on this couch said that she thought she would look good with Vicky (Kaushal), then Vicky collapsed and then the next thing we know is that they are married. Sara (Ali Khan) mentioned Kartik (Aaryan) and they started dating. Alia (Bhatt) has mentioned Ranbir (Kapoor) season after season and she is married to him today and is going to have his beautiful baby. So it’s fantastic that this couch has actually manifested so many relationships."

Sara will be appearing in an episode of Koffee With Karan 7, which premiered yesterday on Disney+Hotstar. She will be seen sharing the couch with her friend, actress Janhvi Kapoor. In the trailer of Koffee With Karan 7, Karan asked Sara, "One reason why your ex is your ex?" Reacting to it, the actress said, "Because he is everyone’s Ex!"
In a previous interview, Kartik was asked whether link-up rumours are just for promotional purposes. He told a Hindi publication, "No, no. There was nothing promotional there. How do I explain this? No dear, I mean, we are humans as well. Not everything is promotional. This is all that I will say on this topic."
